Bio
We are a student-run big band, accepting musicians from all universities in Munich. Alongside our traditional big band formation, we feature our very own vocalists and span a much broader range of genres than the obligatory swing: in addition to funk and catchy tunes from film and pop, our repertoire increasingly includes our own arrangements and pieces from the modern jazz scene. You can hear us at our own concerts, as well as at TUM events and on other occasions outside the campus and on student festivals.
Our story began a few years ago when a hand full of musicians followed our initiator's call and began rehearsing. Driven by the enthusiasm of our founding members, the band quickly grew and played its first gig at a fundraising event. Since 2014, the band is organized as the TUM JazzBand e.V. and is entirely self-organized. Our lineup includes about 25 musicians and is conducted by Korbinian Bauer, a student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and former member of the Landes-Jugendjazorchester Bayern.
But we don't stop there. Once a semester we spend a full weekend thoroughly rehearsing our repertoire, periodically invite professionals for workshop days and enjoy connecting with other student big bands from all over Europe. We have even played our first international concerts on a week-long visit to Edinburgh in the fall of 2018. You can read more about our past projects here.
During the lecture period, we rehearse every Thursday from 18:30 to 21:00 in room 2100 on the main campus.
